Saldenah Mas is Band of the Year for 2010 Caribana…..
That is right. We did it!
What a day. Just got back from the parade a half hour ago. I received the news as we were loading all the big mas back to the container. I got a text saying that the results are in. I went over to my father and told him to get ready.
6:10- message recieved.Tru Dyansty won the B category.
6:17- message recieved. You guys won.
After I received the message my father received a phone call from a friend, who was down by the CNE grounds. He confirmed the win. WOW! How sweet it is!
I arrived at the CNE grounds at 7:30. I didn’t get a goodnight sleep because 1) I get excited and 2) I always feel I will sleep through my alarm. Did I ever tell you that I missed a Caribana because I slept through my alarm? True story. Anyway, my task today was to bring all the sections on stage. It went pretty smooth. I was happy how the presentation turned out. It’s a working progress.
We hit the stage at 12:30. Their was definitely something in the air. As we approach stage you could really feel the energy from the masqueraders. Band of the Year was in our grasp. 15 sections crossed the stage. Guess how long it took? 1 hour. It was section after section after section. 2400 masqueraders strong were enjoying palancing on stage. It was awesome to see.
Did we have standards? We had some. Not all sections had standards. I was really upset about that. Stickin!
Overall, at the end of the day we finally brought it home. It is so nice to finally get 16.
I wish I could thank all 2400 masquraders personally. I can’t but all who played in Portrait of India,Portrait of Indonesia, Portrait of Paradise, Portrait of Celestial Journey, Portrait of Rose, Portrait of Painters Pallet, Portraits of Royalty,Portraits of Canada,Portrait of Grapes and Wine, Portrait of Lost Lovers,Portrait of a Fallen Angel, Portrait of Fantasy,Portrait of Eco Revolution,Portrait of Innocence and Portrait of Autumn. Thanks for making our band CHAMPIONS…..

Yes, WOOOOWWWWWWWW, it was fantastic, colors for so, I never see so many colors in one band yet. Everything was like u said AWSOMMMMMEEEEE. Everyone should be proud that the hard work paid off. I was at the King and Queen not being bias I still beleived the King was the best. He danced that costume.
Congratulations to Louis, his team of Section Leaders, Mas Makers, and the army of Volunteers involved in this year’s production…well done.
This year I had the pleasure of ‘viewing’ the production from the vantage point of the Spectator Seating right next to the Judging tent at Exhibition Stadium…. I saw what the Judges saw and what a magnificent spectacle it was….. wave after wave of ‘Palancers’ kept coming…. at one point I asked myself….”Did all of Toronto play mas with Louis this year”? lol
As the last section Expats went off stage I said…..”put away your computers Judges….we all know who the winner of Band of the Year is…even though the remainder of the parade was beautiful….it was certainly anti-climatic after Louis’s band.
